Help Society-Nepal holds successful General Assembly Meeting
25 April, 2011 – Help Society-Nepal, Language Development Center Nepal’s partner organization in Dang District, held its annual general assembly meeting in Tulsipur, Dang. The meeting marked an important change in leadership. Former chairperson Sharm Ram Tharu finished his term and handed over his position to Khopi Ram Chaudhary.
Khopi Ram will bring new ideas and energy to HS Nepal’s work. He has been Basic Education Coordinator at HS-Nepal, and has developed Tharu language materials for education programs. Sharm Ram will remain deeply involved in HS-Nepal’s work. This handover of the leadership position can serve as a model for community groups supported by HS-Nepal. Changing leadership prevents organizations from being run entirely by one person, and helps bring in new ideas and expertise.
The Working Committee voted in at this meeting includes four women and three men. This is the first time HS-Nepal’s working committee has had more women than men.
The General Assembly meeting was attended by around 56 people, including HS Nepal members, a representative from LDC, government officials, and community members. The chief guest was a senior official from the Tulsipur branch of the Chief District Office. The Village Development Committee secretary was also honored after the VDC donated land for HS-Nepal to build a new office building.
