This month we began a one-year partnership with the Genographic Legacy Fund to record and publishing stories and songs from the Dangaura Tharu and Limbu communities.

The project will record Dangaura Tharu and Limbu oral literature, transcribe and adapt songs and stories for young readers and produce teaching materials. These activities will involve as many members of these communities as possible, especially linking holders of traditional indigenous knowledge with schoolchildren.

Last week we met with local schoolteachers, parent and members of the School Management Committee (SMC) from Bal Chetana Lower Secondary School in Dang. Mr. Rohit Chaudhary, Chair of the SMC agreed to lead a committee to gather materials for this project in Dang. Out next step will be to create a similar group in the Limbu community.
